What this guide covers
Yoga pant fit problems are usually not sizing mistakes. They are length and rise mismatches. This guide explains how inseam and rise are measured, how to choose a length for your height and your activity, and how those choices map to the pant types Flexvibe stocks. Measurements below are methods you can reproduce, not brand-specific claims.
How to measure inseam and rise at home
Inseam
Inseam is the distance from the crotch seam to the hem along the inside of the leg. Two reliable ways to get it:
- From a garment that already fits: lay the pants flat, smooth out the fabric without stretching it, and measure from the crotch seam straight down the inner leg to the hem.
- From your body: stand barefoot against a wall with feet about hip width apart, and measure from the top of the inner thigh to the floor. Subtract for the footwear and the hem position you want.
Rise
Rise is the distance from the crotch seam to the top of the waistband at the front. High-rise styles sit at or above the navel and stay put through hip hinges; mid-rise sits below. If a pant rolls down during forward folds or squats, the rise is usually too low for the movement, not the size.
Two checks that predict real-world fit
- Deep squat check: squat fully and look at the fabric across the seat in daylight. Seams should not gap and the fabric should not go transparent.
- Waistband check: hinge forward at the hips and hold. The waistband should stay in place without being pulled up.
Choosing length by activity
| Activity | Length that usually works | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Yoga and Pilates | Full length or 7/8 | The hem stays put in inversions and the leg line helps with alignment cues. |
| Gym and strength training | Full length or biker short | Full length protects skin on benches and equipment; shorts free the knee for deep squats. |
| Running | Full length in cold weather, short in heat | Length choice here is about temperature and chafing, not support. |
| Everyday and travel | Full length, flare or wide leg | A wider hem reads as casual wear rather than gym wear. |
Choosing length by height
Height affects where a fixed inseam lands, so the same pant reads differently on different bodies. Rather than quoting a universal inseam number, check where the hem falls:
- Full length should land at or just past the ankle bone without stacking fabric at the shoe.
- 7/8 length should land above the ankle bone, showing the narrowest part of the leg.
- Flare and wide leg should nearly graze the floor with the shoes you intend to wear, which is why hem length depends on footwear choice.
If you are between two lengths, size the inseam to the shoes you wear most with the pant.

Common fit problems and what actually fixes them
- Waistband rolls down: raise the rise before changing the size. A larger size in a low rise rolls more, not less.
- Fabric goes sheer in a squat: this is a fabric and size issue together. Check it in daylight before removing tags.
- Bunching behind the knee: the inseam is too long for your leg. Move to a 7/8 length rather than a smaller size.
- Tight at the hip, loose at the waist: look for a high-rise style with a contoured or seamless waistband instead of sizing up.
